August sturgeon moon 2026: What to know and what it means for your zodiac sign
The August full moon, commonly known as the sturgeon moon, is almost here, and this year, it will coincide with a partial lunar eclipse.
Celebrity astrologer Kyle Thomas, who is known for his cosmic guidance for celebrities, businesses, and online influencers, spoke to "Good Morning America" about what the August full moon and lunar eclipse could mean for each zodiac sign.
But first, here's what to know about this month's sturgeon moon.
When can you see the full sturgeon moon?
The sturgeon moon will reach its full phase at 12:18 a.m. ET on Aug. 28, or 9:18 p.m. PT on Aug. 27, according to the U.S. Naval Observatory.
This year's full moon will also coincide with a partial lunar eclipse, beginning late Aug. 27 and continuing into the early morning hours of Aug. 28.
The best views of the eclipse will be in the eastern United States and Canada and across Central and South America. Those in the western U.S. will still be able to see part of the eclipse.
The best time to begin watching the eclipse is around 10:33 p.m. ET on Aug. 27, with the greatest coverage occurring around 12:12 a.m. ET on Aug. 28. The eclipse will end just after 3 a.m. ET.
Unlike a solar eclipse, no special glasses are needed to view a lunar eclipse, and binoculars or a telescope can provide an enhanced view.
Why is it called the sturgeon moon?
The Old Farmer's Almanac, which has been naming full moons since the 1930s, explains that the August full moon is called the sturgeon moon because the giant lake sturgeon, a native freshwater fish of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain, was historically abundant during this time of year.
The fish was an important food source for Native Americans who lived in the region.
The August full moon is also known by other names associated with the season, including the corn moon, harvest moon and rising moon.
What zodiac sign is the sturgeon moon in August?
The zodiac sign of each full moon is determined by its position in the night sky relative to the astrological signs. Each year, the moon shifts, resulting in different characteristics, according to Thomas.
This year's sturgeon moon and lunar eclipse will occur in Pisces, the 12th and final zodiac sign. Pisces is a water sign and the opposite sign of Virgo.
"This means that both zodiac signs hold ties to our health -- physical or mental -- as well the physical or spiritual world," Thomas said. "This duality grounds us in the practical while also opening us up to the divine, as well."
Thomas said lunar eclipses can also signal significant turning points.
"Lunar eclipses are three times more powerful and emotional than full moons," he added. "They mark culminations, breakthroughs, or breakdowns, triggering a crisis event that causes us to assess our most internal fears, feelings and actions."
Rituals and manifestations to try during the sturgeon moon
Thomas does not recommend manifesting during an eclipse because he considers eclipse energy intense and unpredictable.
Instead, he recommends using the time to slow down, reflect and pay attention to what is happening in your life.
"Eclipse season is an ideal period in time to journal, pray, relax, center yourself, and practice meditation," Thomas said. "Connecting with nature and spiritual energy are ideal during these times."
Thomas said asking yourself questions rather than using mantras can also be an effective way to engage with the eclipse's energy.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)

"As the lunation arrives, you could be propelled to swim into new territory," Thomas said. "This may energize you to book a flight and venture out or plan a fun vacation in the year to come. Academic endeavors, legal projects and media or publishing plans could also see a shift now."
