Categories that won't be announced during Monday's telecast

In July, the Television Academy announced that it would trim the number of awards categories announced during its live telecast in an effort to deliver a "fresh new take on the Emmys broadcast."

The academy said it would move the categories of writing for a variety series, supporting actor and actress in a limited series or movie, directing for a limited series or movie, and writing for a limited series or movie into the Creative Arts Emmys weekend.

Television Academy chair Chris Abrego told Variety in July that the move would "flex more creativity into the show."

"The Pitt" is heading into Monday night's awards show with the most nominations. It earned 25 nods overall and is nominated in five major drama categories Monday evening, including outstanding drama series, directing and writing.

Noah Wyle is looking to win his second Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a drama series after taking home the trophy for his portrayal of Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch last year. After winning the Emmy for outstanding supporting actress in 2025, Katherine LaNasa, who plays nurse Dana Evans, faces competition in the category this year from co-stars Taylor Dearden, who plays Dr. Melissa "Mel" King, and Fiona Dourif, who plays Dr. Cassie McKay.

The medical drama is followed by fellow HBO Max series "Hacks," which earned 24 nods total this year and is up for six major categories on Monday night, including outstanding comedy series, directing and writing.

"Hacks" star Jean Smart is vying for a five-peat Emmy win for outstanding lead actress for her performance as comedian Deborah Vance, while 2025 supporting actress in a comedy series winner Hannah Einbinder, who plays writer Ava Daniels on the series, faces competition in the category this year from co-star Megan Stalter, who plays talent manager and former personal assistant Kayla Schaefer.
