Kim Kardashian, Hailey Bieber and more will star in Carine Roitfeld's virtual amfAR fashion show supporting COVID-19 relief
CR Fashion Book founder Carine Roitfeld has teamed up with amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research, for a star-studded virtual fashion show that everyone's invited to watch.
This year's digital-friendly show, officially named "Fashion Unites," will stream May 1 exclusively on YouTube at 4 p.m. EST, and will push to raise awareness for COVID-19 research efforts.
Familiar faces such as Kim Kardashian West, Hailey Beiber, Ashley Graham, Virgil Abloh, Diane von Fürstenberg and many more iconic fashion forces will take part in the show.
"Embracing fashion as the creative expression through which to support the health and safety of our global communities, we hope this show can offer a small moment of hope, inspiration, and uplifting connection," said Roitfeld in a statement. "A modest contribution as our world unites to collectively weather the storm of this pandemic together."
Hosted by YouTube's head of fashion and beauty, Derek Blasberg, each participating model will film themselves wearing looks pulled from their own wardrobes and styled remotely by Roitfeld and her team.
This global fundraising initiative will support the amfAR Fund to Fight COVID-19, which will assist in providing the organization's state-of-the-art resources and top infectious disease experts to support the development of treatments for the coronavirus.
"AmfAR is uniquely positioned to contribute to the all-out effort to develop effective treatments for the coronavirus,” said amfAR CEO Kevin Robert Frost in a statement. “There is no doubt we can do this and remain fully committed to HIV research and to finding a cure for the 38 million people worldwide who are living with HIV -- that commitment hasn't changed.”
This will be the ninth year Roitfeld and amfAR have joined forces to curate a fashion show that's usually in conjunction with the amfAR Gala Cannes to benefit AIDS research.
For this year's virtual version of the show, there will also be a behind-the-scenes glimpse at how everything is produced, in addition to messages of hope and gratitude by designers and contributors for the real-life heroes who risk their lives fighting the pandemic on the front lines every day.
