Billie Eilish reveals striking new look for British Vogue: 'I feel more like a woman, somehow'
Billie Eilish unveiled her striking new look Sunday, emulating a "classic, old-timey pin-up" vibe for her next music era.
Speaking to British Vogue, the "Your Power" singer, who is photographed wearing corsets, stockings and heels while also showing off her hip tattoo, admitted to the publication, "I've literally never done anything in this realm at all."
Eilish, 19, said it is time for her to not only embrace her body and sexuality. For those who may disparage her for this, she had this message: "My thing is that I can do whatever I want."
The Grammy winner shared her critical thoughts about beauty standards and hopes that, one day, women will have the confidence to feel comfortable in their skin.
"It's all about what makes you feel good," said Eilish. "If you want to get surgery, go get surgery. If you want to wear a dress that somebody thinks that you look too big wearing, f--- it – if you feel like you look good, you look good."
She also took issue with slut-shaming, noting that disparaging remarks may be directed at her now that she's no longer wearing baggy clothes.
"Suddenly you’re a hypocrite if you want to show your skin, and you’re easy and you’re a slut and you’re a wh---. If I am, then I'm proud," fumed Eilish. "Let's turn it around and be empowered in that. Showing your body and showing your skin – or not – should not take any respect away from you."
Eilish initially began revealing her new look by ditching what became her signature green and black hair for blonde locks, layers and bangs in March.
She captioned a photo of her brighter new shag simply saying, "pinch me.
The singer's upcoming sophomore album, "Happier Than Ever," will explore themes such as reclaiming her sexuality and agency as evidenced in her new single, "Your Power," of which she sings to the person who took advantage of her when she was younger.
"Happier Than Ever" is due out July 30.
