Teresa Giudice Has Paid $200,000 In Restitution
— -- “Real Housewives” star Teresa Giudice has paid the federal government the $200,000 in restitution she was ordered to have at sentencing, the U.S. Attorney's Office confirmed to ABC News.
The $200,000 will go toward the $414,588 in restitution that Giudice and her husband Joe have been ordered to pay. (They must pay restitution separately, and according to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Joe Giudice has not yet paid his half.) As far as Teresa Giudice's recent payment, according to her attorney's testimony, about $150,000 was secured through a contract advance while $50,000 obtained as a loan from a friend.
In addition to paying restitution, both reality TV stars were sentenced to prison earlier this month. Teresa Giudice will begin her 15 month sentence early next year and her husband's 3.5 years behind bars will begin when she gets out.
"I was shocked," she added about her sentence last week. "It was very unexpected. I don't even know what to say."
Meanwhile, Joe Giudice's legal troubles are far from over.
The reality TV star, who also faces deportation, as he is not a U.S. citizen, is expected to appear in state court in Paterson, N.J. tomorrow, where he is charged with presenting his brother's marriage and birth certificates to the Motor Vehicle Commission in 2010 to obtain a driver's license.
