— -- Question: What is the prognosis for ductal carcinoma in situ?
Answer: The prognosis for ductal carcinoma in situ is excellent. Regardless of what local treatment options patients may choose, their survival from this kind of breast cancer is in the range of about 99 percent. And most of the differences that we measure with different types of treatment options really are differences in the measurement of, or the risk of, local recurrence in the breast itself. There is very little impact on survival no matter what the patient opts as the local treatment.
