'Modern-Day Bonnie and Clyde' Teens Wanted in 2 States, Police Chief Says
— -- The search is on Friday in western Pennsylvania for a pair of what one police chief is calling “modern-day Bonnie and Clyde” teenagers wanted in connection with a two-state crime spree.
The teens have been identified as Rose May, 15, of Sycamore, Ohio, and Triston Kindle, 16, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, according to Allegheny County Police in Pennsylvania.
MONDAY
Their journey began in Ohio in the morning when the duo allegedly stole a Ford truck near Kindle's home, according to the Wyandot County Sheriff's Office in Ohio.
TUESDAY
In the afternoon, May and Kindle were allegedly caught on surveillance video taking shotgun shells from a Bucyrus, Ohio, Walmart before driving away in the allegedly stolen Ford truck, the Wyandot County Sheriff's Office said.
WEDNESDAY
The Ford allegedly stolen in Ohio was recovered in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, and searched by State Police, officials said. The teens then allegedly stole another vehicle from Jefferson County, according to the Wyandot County Sheriff's Office.
THURSDAY
Then, around 2 a.m. Thursday, the teens allegedly tried to rob a convenience store gas station in Elizabeth Township, Pennsylvania, at gunpoint, Allegheny County Police Superintendent Charles Moffatt told ABC News Friday.
When a police officer responded, the teens tried to flee in a pickup truck, which they allegedly stole in Pennsylvania, he said.
"The officer, in an attempt to grab them from the truck, grabbed the door handle and in an attempt to open the door, they started pulling away," Moffatt said. "The officer felt he had to hold on because he thought he would get dragged underneath the truck. ... He was dragged a short distance."
The officer then let go and the teens fled the area in the allegedly stolen truck, Moffat said. The officer’s injuries were not life-threatening, Moffatt added.
The teens fled the convenience store in the vehicle that had been allegedly stolen from the same area where the Ford truck was recovered, officials said. The second vehicle was then found abandoned near the site of the robbery.
Elizabeth Township, Pennsylvania Police Chief David Kerestes told ABC News Friday that Thursday's search for the teens lasted from about 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Moffatt of Allegheny County said, "They fled into a wooded area and we, along with a number of police agencies on foot, ATVs and by helicopter, could not locate them in that wooded area. It's very thick overgrowth.
"There was a number of sightings of them. ... We followed up and did not catch up with them," Moffatt said. "We searched a number of abandoned buildings in that area to no avail."
Kerestes said there were no calls overnight Thursday of any cars stolen.
FRIDAY
The teens are wanted on charges including robbery and aggravated assault on a police officer, Moffatt said. They may be in possession of two firearms, officials said.
"We got a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde out here from Ohio," Kerestes told ABC affiliate WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh. "I can't even imagine how they ended up in little Elizabeth Township, Pennsylvania."
ABC News has been unable to reach the teens’ families.
