Man in Robes Buying Lottery Tickets Chases After Alleged Robber
— -- A 61-year-old man recently chased down a suspected robber who allegedly stole money he was going to use to buy lotto tickets at a Philadelphia gas station, according to surveillance video released by police on Wednesday.
The man, who was dressed in what appeared to be red and orange monastic robes, had been purchasing lottery tickets inside a Sunoco gas station when the suspected robber came up behind him and snatched about $350 in cash from his hand, the Philadelphia Police Department said in a news release.
When the alleged robber fled, the man chased after the robber and got into a struggle with him outside the gas station's convenience store, police said.
"During the struggle, the complainant was pushed to the ground sustaining a cut to his left leg," police said. "The suspect then fled and was last seen entering a newer dark silver Ford Mustang with a Pa Tag of JHY-3783."
A Philadelphia Police Department spokeswoman told ABC News today it was not immediately clear if the apparent victim was able to get his allegedly stolen cash back.
The suspected robber remained at large today, and police ask anyone with information to call the Philadelphia Police Department at 215-686-8477 or to text the department at 773847.
