Hillary Clinton Says 'Of Course You Can Be a Feminist and Be Pro-Life'
— -- Hillary Clinton told the women of “The View” today that although she is “pro-choice” on abortion rights, “of course, you can be a feminist and be pro-life.”
“Yes, I do, absolutely,” Clinton said during her first appearance on the show as a presidential candidate when asked by co-host Candace Bure if she believes someone can be both a feminist and against abortion.
“Absolutely,” the Democratic front-runner said. "Look, I've been, and I'm sure that Whoopi and Joy have been, we've been in these conversations now for, what, 40-plus years, right? And I respect the opinions and beliefs of every woman. The reason why being pro-choice is the right way to go is because it is a choice and hopefully a choice that is rooted in the thoughtfulness and the care that women bring to this decision. So, of course you can be a feminist and be pro-life.”
During the interview, which came ahead of her “Women for Hillary” campaign event this afternoon in Brooklyn, Clinton also spoke with the women about sexism, the campaign and life as a grandmother.
When asked about her low likability and trustworthiness poll numbers, Clinton said that she thinks people often don’t like her because she is “more serious” and “more reserved” than other people in public life. She then joked that she has “great creams” to help with developing thick skin.
On her granddaughter, Charlotte, Clinton said she gets “separation anxiety” if she doesn’t get to see her for long stretches of time, and that she uses FaceTime to catch up with her while she’s on the campaign trail.
And then, during a rocket round about pop culture, Clinton revealed that she loves “nearly everything” Katy Perry, Demi Lovato and Adele; that she binge watches “Madame Secretary,” “The Good Wife,” “NCIS” and “Castle”; and that she has many celebrity crushes -- including George Clooney.
“He is a pretty big figure in my celebrity crush list,” Clinton confided.
