Dallas Police Worker Stepped Away from Desk Moments Before Shooting, Chief Says
— -- One worker at Dallas police headquarters may have escaped a gunman's bullets by just minutes early Saturday morning.
The employee stepped away from the headquarters' front desk moments before a suspect attacked, spraying the building with bullets, according to ABC affiliate WFAA-TV in Dallas.
Dallas Police Chief David Brown said she likely would have been killed if she had been at the desk.
"We barely survived the intent of this suspect," Brown said, according to WFAA-TV. "It raises the hair on the back of your neck pretty quickly just thinking what could have happened."
No officers were injured in the incident.
The suspect, who opened fire outside police headquarters then engaged officers in a shootout, was confirmed dead by police on Saturday.
