Boy Hospitalized After Injury on Roller Coaster in Pennsylvania
— -- A boy was airlifted to a hospital after he was injured while riding a roller coaster at the Idlewild and SoakZone amusement park in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, about 50 miles east of Pittsburgh, according to a park spokesman.
The boy was conscious while being treated on site, said park spokesman Jeff Croushore. He did not comment on how the boy was injured or the details of the injuries but said the boy was riding the wooden Rollo Coaster with his brother and was injured in the middle of the ride.
A Westmoreland County emergency dispatcher said earlier that the child appeared to have fallen off the ride.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the boy and his family," Croushore said. "A full investigation has begun to determine the cause of the incident. The Rollo Coaster will be closed, pending the results of the investigation."
He said the rides are inspected daily.
The accident comes four days after a 10-year-old boy died on a water slide in Kansas and three days after three children fell from a Ferris wheel in Tennessee.
