 -- An American is among the 413 killed in Ecuador after a devastating earthquake struck Saturday, a State Department spokesperson said today.

Additional details about the American were not immediately available.

Ecuador’s president Rafael Correa characterized the powerful 7.8 quake as Ecuador’s biggest tragedy in 67 years.
