Prediction time: This week's college football picks
Most of us rebounded from a tough week to go 6-1 in the picks last weekend. The lone loss: Texas A&M's victory over Texas Tech. I didn't see that coming. Many of you didn't, either. A special shoutout to all the Aggies who jumped on to give everyone a "gig 'em." That was a big win for Texas A&M. Let's see if they can keep the momentum going. On to this week's picks. Texas at Oklahoma State: In front of a sellout crowd wearing orange -- or will it be black? -- it should be a festive Halloween night. OSU should hang around in this one, but I think Texas has too many weapons. The UT defense will make a big play to set up a score, and that will prove to be the difference. This should be a great game, and I'm glad I'll be in attendance. Join me during the in-game chat in ESPN's Virtual Pressbox! Prediction: Texas 27, OSU 17 Kansas at Texas Tech: The Red Raiders will try to bounce back after getting stomped by Texas A&M last week. We'll see who starts at quarterback, but I'm not sure it matters in this one. Kansas has talent, but they are playing Texas Tech at the wrong time. The Red Raiders will be extra motivated in this one. Prediction: Texas Tech 38, Kansas 17 Iowa State at Texas A&M: Once again, Aggies fans won't be able to watch their team on television. That's too bad, because I think another win is in the books. Iowa State pulled off a huge upset of Nebraska, but can they sustain that momentum? I don't think they can. Texas A&M feels better about itself and knows this is the kind of win it needs to build toward bowl eligibility. Prediction: Texas A&M 21, Iowa State 17 Kansas State at Oklahoma: Sure, K-State has won two in a row and sits atop the Big 12 North standings, but do the Wildcats have another stunner in them? Not in Norman. After the loss to UT, I said the Sooners would run the table. I still think that, and the Wildcats aren't going to get in the way. Prediction: Oklahoma 45, Kansas State 10 Nebraska at Baylor: Nebraska had a ridiculous eight turnovers against Iowa State, leading to a shocking loss. Can that really happen two weeks in a row? No. Baylor is playing better. Despite all the injuries, the Bears are showing improvement. They'll hang in with the Huskers but won't quite have enough come the fourth quarter. Prediction: Nebraska 28, Baylor 24 SMU at Tulsa: The Mustangs could be without starting QB Bo Levi Mitchell, who will be a gameday decision. If he can't go, freshman Kyle Padron will get the start. Padron played some last week against Houston when Mitchell hurt his non-throwing shoulder. Tulsa, though, can pile up the points and is coming off a bye week. They'll be hungry and ready. Prediction: Tulsa 38, SMU 13 Western Kentucky at UNT: Western Kentucky is 0-7 and near the bottom of most major statistical categories. While UNT has just one win, the Mean Green has had trouble finishing a few games and are better than the record indicates. How about this for a surprise: I think UNT, buoyed by the announcement of a new stadium, wins by a couple of touchdowns. Prediction: North Texas 38, Western Kentucky 24 UNLV at TCU: A prime example of a trap game. TCU just got a big win over BYU on the road and are vying to be this season's BCS buster. UNLV has speed on both sides of the ball and got a road win last week at New Mexico. But Gary Patterson will have his team ready, and the offense should be able to move the ball on an inconsistent UNLV defense. Prediction: TCU 42, UNLV 13 Your turn.
