Man plans special, 15-mile bike route spelling 'MARRY ME' to propose
Everything's bigger in Texas, even the marriage proposals.
Two avid cyclers went for an unforgettable afternoon ride earlier this week that ended with an epic romantic surprise.
Houston couple Jon Blaze and Thao Nguyen work out and ride their bikes together twice a week, but a recent 15-mile route left them with an added post-ride glow.
Blaze, who first met Nguyen on Valentine's Day in 2016, told ABC News that he planned the proposal around their shared hobby to make it "unique and special."
"I was nervous the entire ride, all the way up to where I got down on my knees, and was very relieved when it was all over," he said.
The wildly elaborate, carefully mapped route culminated at Buffalo Bayou Park after an hour and a half, where Blaze showed his girlfriend of three years the path they had just ridden on Strava, an app that can use GPS to track outdoor rides.
Their path spelled out "MARRY ME." He got down on one knee and she said "yes."
"I went from being so annoyed by all the crazy turns we did to being completely shocked," the bride-to-be told KTRK. "And with the biggest smile on my face."
Blaze said he had a good friend waiting for them at the end of the route "ready to take pictures and videos."
Blaze shared the post on a bicycling sub-Reddit, which garnered some hilarious responses.
"If she played along with that bonkers route she's a keeper for sure," one commenter said of the meticulous navigation.
But Blaze confirmed in the thread, "I told her we're gonna ride a crazy route today. Don't ask any questions, just follow along."
The newly engaged couple said they plan to get married before November and one thing's for sure: whenever the big day arrives, the walk down the aisle will be a straight shot to a lifetime of adventure.
"We are going to London in November for our honeymoon to catch the Texans vs. Jaguars game," Blaze told ABC News. "We're both big football fans and we love the Houston Texans."
