What's 'Barbiecore?' What to know about one of summer's brightest fashion trends
Hello, hot Barbie summer.
From red carpets and runways to social media feeds, Barbie-inspired pink is undeniably one of this season's hottest hues.
More commonly known now as "Barbiecore," everyone from celebrities such as Lizzo, Anne Hathaway, Kim Kardashian and many more have been seen wearing a sea of vibrant pinks in recent weeks.
Actress Florence Pugh also recently made headlines wearing Barbie's go-to color in the form of a sheer floor-sweeping Valentina gown as she attended the designer's fashion show in Paris, alongside other front row notables -- several of whom were wearing pops of pinks as well.
The popular color pick is naturally having a moment -- and it's timed perfectly with the buzz surrounding Margot Robbie’s upcoming live-action portrayal of the famed doll for the upcoming "Barbie" movie, slated to release in 2023.
Searches on Etsy for "Barbiecore" hot pink fashion-related items are up 35% in the last three months compared to last year.
"A much-welcomed mood-booster after the last few years, 'Barbiecore' is all about embracing vibrant hues -- particularly the doll's signature hot pink -- in everyday life," Etsy trend expert Dayna Isom Johnson said in a statement. "And with many nostalgic for simpler, sunnier, and more carefree times, it only makes sense that this '80s-inspired, unapologetically pink aesthetic is taking center stage as the 'it' style of the summer."
Barbiecore fashion isn't going anywhere anytime soon, and now is the perfect time to get in on the trend.
Whether you're looking to try a new head-to-toe pink look for summer, step into a new pair of power pink pumps or simply elevate your manicure with a few rich layers of hot pink nail lacquer, there's really no way to go wrong.
