Recreate the viral sweet potato pancakes that sparked a viral TikTok sound: 'Spectacular give me 14 of em right now'
If you've been on social media this month, you've likely already come across the viral video turned meme and trending audio of a man's reaction to tasting a "spectacular" plate of sweet potato pancakes.
More than 30 million people have watched the wholesome 21-second exchange between Alfred and Vicky Sirica on TikTok when he tried a bite of her two-ingredient concoction and, immediately before finishing chewing, said, "Spectacular, give me 14 of 'em right now."
His wife asked, "Do you know what's in here?" To which he said, "I don't care don't tell me."
"It's sort of surreal," Al Sirica told "Good Morning America" of the online attention they've garnered from the clip. "You almost feel like it's happening to somebody else, because even though we're pretty funny people in general, we can't believe that people are watching it and like finding it funny -- this just accidentally happened that video."
The couple behind "60somethinglife" has spurred hundreds of thousands of TikTok users to repurpose their audio track and voice over with their own videos while tasting other food and drinks, from sweet treats to spritzy cocktails, that warrant similar unabashed high praise.
The recipe for viral video success on food TikTok regularly follows a seemingly simple formula: show off a tasty bite that's easy to replicate with unfussy preparation and minimal ingredients that most home cooks would have on hand.
Even with the newfound social media fame, Vicky Sirica said it's all about the simplicity of the dish.
"When I made these pancakes, they tasted good to me and they were sweet. Naturally, I wanted him to try it, so I started videotaping him without him really knowing I was doing it," she said of the organic reaction. "And it just came out funny. That video was done about a year ago and I just put it up now."
