Fruit puree pouches voluntarily recalled over potential for plastic contamination
Snack company PT Organics Limited is voluntarily recalling select Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry fruit puree pouches due to an internal packaging defect that may result in plastic entering the product.
The impacted product was sold at Kroger, Meijer, and Target locations across the country between March 6, 2026, and July 13, 2026, according to a company announcement shared on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website Tuesday.
According to the announcement, there have been no injuries reported in connection with the recall. No other Pumpkin Tree-branded products are affected, the company said.
The company said it initiated its voluntary recall after a packaging supplier issued a recall of its own on a "production run of defective pouches."
"PT Organics' inspections of finished product made with the recalled packaging confirmed the presence of a strand of a soft, food-grade plastic attached to the inside of a small number of pouches," it said.
The recalled pouches bear the barcode 8 15367 01078 0 and lane number 4 stamped in black ink on the back of the pouch.
The products also bear the following "best before" dates:
- Jan. 19, 2027
- Jan. 20, 2027
- March 17, 2027
- March 18, 2027
- May 14, 2027
- May 15, 2027
PT Organics has advised consumers in possession of any recalled products to not eat them and to either throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
A message posted to the Pumpkin Tree Snacks website states that the company is removing the products from the marketplace and is "working with retailers and our packaging supplier, and sharing information with consumers so they can identify the product and know exactly what to do."
The website also notes that the "Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics Strawberry-Banana (barcode 8 15367 010100) is NOT affected by this recall."
"We will continue to provide clear updates and support to consumers, retailers, and regulators as we work to understand what went wrong and make sure it cannot happen again," the company wrote.
A representative for PT Organics directed ABC News to the company's recall webpage when reached for comment.
