Aug. 9, 2013— -- Discovery Channel's annual programming pinnacle, Shark Week, is almost fin-nished. See what I did there?
For the past 5 days we've been inundated with the raw acrobatics of flying great white sharks, the possibility of a giant prehistoric shark, and of course, the usual shark attack survival stories. We watch Shark Week for the same reason we watch horror movies: we love being scared. Well, some of us not so much.
Despite the shark hysteria, statistics show that for every 12 people killed by shark attacks each year, over 11,000 sharks are killed every hour by humans.
Seems like we're not the ones who should be afraid of other creatures.
