Woman accused of shooting at Rihanna's Los Angeles home indicted on attempted murder
Iyanna Ortiz, a Florida woman who is accused of firing a semiautomatic rifle at Rihanna's Los Angeles home in March, has been indicted on an attempted murder charge, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
An indictment was unsealed today against Ortiz, charging her with one count of attempted murder, 10 felony counts of assault with an assault weapon and three felony counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper, according to the DA's office. The indictment was returned on June 18.
"Every person deserves to feel safe in and around their home," Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said. "Shooting at an occupied home is a serious, violent crime that is both reckless and dangerous. It is pure luck and not a matter of restraint that no one was killed or injured."
According to the DA's office, the incident happened on March 8 around 1:20 p.m. when Ortiz, who is from Orlando, Florida, was accused of driving up to the home belonging to Rihanna and firing an assault weapon multiple times at the house.
Rihanna, her family and others were at the property at the time, but no one was injured.
Ortiz was later arrested in Sherman Oaks. She pleaded not guilty, and a pretrial hearing is scheduled for Oct. 29 at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. Her bail was set at $2.65 million, according to the LA District Attorney's Office.
If convicted, Ortiz faces life in state prison.
At the time of the shooting, sources told ABC News that multiple rounds hit the outside of Rihanna's home, as well as a vehicle parked out front.
Hochman also told ABC News at the time of the shooting that Rihanna and her partner, A$AP Rocky, were in an Airstream camper on the property, while their three children, Rihanna's mother and two staff members were in the house.
Ortiz is also accused of firing at a neighboring residence that had two individuals at home, Hochman said.
ABC News has reached out to a representative for Rihanna for comment as well as an attorney for Ortiz.
