Serena and Venus Williams to compete together at Wimbledon

"I never thought I'd get to play against her. She stopped playing when I kinda got on tour," she added. "When I saw that she got the wildcard, I think there's a small part of me that always wanted to experience playing her and if someone told me 10 years ago that I'd be playing at Wimbledon first round against Serena Williams, I just -- that would be ridiculous."

When was the last time Williams played a Wimbledon singles match?

Williams' last appearance at Wimbledon was in June 2022. She lost in the opening round to Harmony Tan.

Williams, who stepped away from tennis after the 2022 U.S. Open, said that her approach to her match against Joint is "to have fun."

"As of now, I'm not nervous," she said. "My expectation here is just to take it easy and to be calm and to have fun, which is something I historically have never done, but in a good way."

She added that her plan was to just play doubles, but when it came to step back into singles competition, she said it was a "game-time decision."
