Watch Chris Martin surprise Lizzo as she talks about her new song 'Coldplay'
Lizzo got the surprise of her life during a recent interview about her new single "Coldplay" when she was joined by Coldplay frontman himself Chris Martin.
The singer was speaking with Apple Music 1's Zane Lowe about the track, which was inspired by the band and features a sample of their classic song "Yellow."
"Coldplay" is included on Lizzo's new album "Special," which drops Friday.
Lizzo was describing the creation process behind the single when Lowe decided to reveal special guest Martin, who appeared over video chat on a screen behind the "Truth Hurts" singer.
"This is what I wanted to do because the song is so beautiful, and Chris is so beautiful, and you're so beautiful, I thought we'd have a beautiful moment," Lowe said.
"This is so crazy," Lizzo said, ecstatic.
"Thank you for giving me the blessing, the blessing to sample you and to name the song after your band," she told Martin directly.
Lizzo then opened up about what "Yellow" means to her, recalling a time she was with someone and she began to sing the song while looking at the stars -- reminiscent of the tune's lyrics.
"And tears just were coming to my eyes," she said, adding that the man who was with her at the time "held" her after she sang for him.
Speaking to Martin, she added, "You have such an incredible ability to move people with the poetry of your lyricism. So thank you so, so much. It's so real."
Martin was grateful for the praise. "If someone had told me 22 years ago, 'You know, one day Lizzo's going to make out to this song,' I'd be like, 'OK, great! Let's record it!'" he said, laughing.
"You're amazing and we love you," he added.
After Martin signed off, Lizzo told Lowe just how much his acknowledgment meant to her.
"You never get used to the feeling of seeing people who've inspired you acknowledge you. It never gets old, and I never want it to get old," she said, adding, "That was so cool."
"Thank you for that," she said. "My underarms are sweating after the Chris Martin thing!"
