'WandaVision' showrunner talks casting Evan Peters as Pietro
For those who've watched "WandaVision," Evan Peters' appearance in the series was a pleasant surprise. For showrunner Jac Schaeffer, there was no other option.
Speaking recently with The New York Times, Schaeffer revealed they always had planned for Peters to portray a version of Wanda Maximoff's brother, Pietro Maximoff (aka Quicksilver), in the series -- but it wasn't a sure thing at first.
"It was an enormous question mark for a very long time. And it took a while to figure out if it would be possible," she shared of Peters, who played the same character in 2014's "X-Men: Days of Future Past," 2016's "X-Men: Apocalypse" and 2019's "X-Men: Dark Phoenix." "It was late that it was finally confirmed that we could do it. But we were writing for it."
"Evan is such a chameleon in that way, that could play an amalgamation of Uncle Jesse [from 'Full House'], Nick [from 'Family Ties'] and Joey from 'Friends.' He could play those layers," Schaeffer continued.
When asked if a backup plan was in place, Schaeffer admitted there "wasn't a Plan B."
"There were just very, very intense hopes and dreams, and they were met," she shared.
As for whether or not fans should expect a second season, Schaeffer said she "super can't talk about that." That said, she noted how they "set out to make a very complete and satisfying series" while leaving us on a "you-never-know" cliffhanger.
"WandaVision" is currently streaming on Disney+.
Disney is the parent company of Marvel as well as ABC News and "Good Morning America."
