Paramount has made 2022 the year of Tom Cruise.
The studio has bumped his pandemic-delayed "Top Gun: Maverick" until next year along with Cruise's other highly anticipated film, the seventh "Mission: Impossible" installment. The news comes as COVID-19 cases are on the rise in the U.S. and the country is dealing with the delta variant.
Paramount now says "Top Gun: Maverick" will fly into theaters on May 27, 2022, instead of Nov. 19 of this year. "Mission: Impossible 7" will arrive Sept. 30, 2022, after also having been moved around a few times.
With "Top Gun: Maverick" giving up its Nov. 19 slot, Sony has shifted the release of "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" to that date.
