Sarah Jessica Parker opens up about Kim Cattrall, says there is ‘not a fight going on’
Sarah Jessica Parker is setting the record straight about Kim Cattrall.
In an interview with Scott Feinberg on The Hollywood Reporter’s podcast, “Awards Chatter,” the “Sex and the City” actress addressed Cattrall’s exit from the show and the rumors surrounding an alleged public feud between them.
“There is not a fight going on,” Parker said. “There has been no public dispute or spat or conversations or allegations made by me or anybody on my behalf. I wouldn’t do it. That is not the way I would have it. So I just wish that they would stop calling this a cat fight or an argument.”
In 2017, Cattrall, who played Samantha in the show, told Piers Morgan in an interview that she refused to do a third “Sex and the City” film and that she would not participate in a remake of the show. She also said that she and her fellow co-stars in the show have “never been friends.”
“We were disappointed, sure, but it happens,” Parker said about Cattrall’s decision to not be part of the reboot. “There were just a lot of public conversations about how she felt about the show.”
“It’s so painful for people to keep talking about this cat fight,” she added. “It’s very painful because she’s such a huge contributor to the success that I think, you know, her portrayal of that role was wonderful.”
Despite what may or may not have happened between the two actors, Parker said that it was important to still include the character of Samantha in the show in some way. During season one of “And Just Like That…,” fans noticed that while Samantha may not have been physically there, her presence was still around in text messages and other small gestures in the show.
“We were enormously reliant upon Michael [Patrick King] addressing it and figuring out how to talk about the absence of Samantha, because we had such an affection for Samantha,” Parker said. “But we felt comfortable moving on without her and without that part because we knew what Michael wanted to do. And we thought he handled it beautifully and that she was there, she was present. And that was kind of nice for all of us and I think the audience.”
In March, HBO Max announced that it picked up “And Just Like That…” for a second season. Series creator Michael Patrick King said in a statement that he’s “delighted and excited to tell more stories about these vibrant, bold characters.”
