Rihanna makes appearance at CinemaCon, announces new 'Smurfs' role
Rihanna is slated to star in an upcoming "Smurfs" film.
The "Lift Me Up" singer and Fenty Beauty CEO and founder made an appearance at CinemaCon in Las Vegas Thursday to announce her upcoming role as Smurfette in the untitled movie.
Rihanna will also write and perform original music for the new film and serve as a producer, according to a Paramount Pictures press release.
The singer, who wore a light-colored denim outfit with matching boots on Thursday, took to the CinemaCon stage during the Paramount Pictures presentation to talk about her new project.
In a press release, Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation, said Rihanna's "creative appeal" and "musical talents" will "elevate the cultural touchstone of The Smurfs universe in a way that's never been done before."
Thursday's announcement marks Rihanna's latest exciting development in an already momentous year.
In February, the singer delivered an electrifying Super Bowl halftime show performance, during which she sang some of her biggest hit songs.
Following her performance, her rep confirmed to ABC News that she is pregnant with her second child with partner and rapper A$AP Rocky.
Rihanna was also recently nominated for both a Golden Globe and Academy Award for the song, "Lift Me Up," which she co-wrote with Ludwig Göransson, Ryan Coogler and Tems for the film "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever."
