Kate, the Princess of Wales, kicked off day two of her solo visit to Italy on Thursday by spending time outside with kids, including playing games with them and accepting welcome flowers from a young girl.

The princess, who has made early childhood development a focus of her royal work, spent time in Reggio Emilia, a city in northern Italy where the educational philosophy of the same name originated.

Kate visited Remida, Reggio Emilia's creative resource center, where she spoke with staff members and local business leaders about how the whole community supports its youngest members.

Kate's two-day trip to Italy is in support of the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, an organization she founded in 2021 that focuses on early childhood development.

Kate's visit is her first solo international trip since being diagnosed with cancer.

She announced her cancer diagnosis publicly in March 2024 but did not share the type of cancer or stage. Kate underwent chemotherapy and announced in January 2025 that her cancer is in remission.

The last time the princess traveled solo outside of the U.K. was in 2022 when she visited Denmark, also in support of the Royal Foundation Center for Early Childhood.

When Kate arrived in Italy on Wednesday, thousands of people lined a plaza in Reggio Emilia to greet the princess, with some holding signs that said "Ciao Kate."
