Photo of Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana in 'Spencer' released
A new image of Kristen Stewart as Diana, Princess of Wales, in the upcoming drama "Spencer" has been released.
Film production company Neon shared the photo of Stewart smiling and showing off a sapphire ring Thursday.
The ring is, of course, a nod to Diana's famous engagement ring from Prince Charles after he proposed in 1981. Diana's elder son, Prince William, would go on to give the sapphire ring to Kate Middleton, duchess of Cambridge, when he proposed to her in 2010.
Neon captioned the photo of Stewart, "That sapphire. Pablo Larraín’s SPENCER is coming this fall."
The look resembles one Princess Diana wore on a visit to Portsmouth, England, in 1989.
In January, Neon announced that principal photography had begun for "Spencer."
The Pablo Larraín-directed project will center on a weekend over the Christmas holiday in 1991 in Norfolk when Princess Diana supposedly decided to leave Prince Charles.
Filming for the movie is taking place in the U.K. and in Germany.
The official synopsis for the film reads, "December, 1991: The Prince and Princess of Wales’ marriage has long since grown cold. Though rumours of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at Sandringham Estate. There's eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. This year, things will be a whole lot different."
Timothy Spall, Sally Hawkins and Sean Harris will also star in the upcoming film.
