Obi-Wan Kenobi is on the run in new trailer for Disney+ limited series
The Force is strong with Disney+'s new trailer for the upcoming "Obi-Wan Kenobi" limited series.
"The fight is done. We lost," Ewan McGregor's exiled Jedi master admits in voiceover, as we see him for the first time in the flesh 10 years after the events of "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith."
At the end of that film, he promised to stay on Tatooine to watch over a young Luke Skywalker -- and he's shown doing just that thanks to, in a nifty Easter egg, a pair of binocs pulled right from the "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" animated series.
Luke is apparently already dreaming of being a pilot, and he's seen wearing goggles similar to the ones worn by his father, Anakin Skywalker, when he was a young podracer in "Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace."
"Stay hidden," McGregor's Obi-Wan can be heard saying, no doubt to Luke.
Meanwhile, we see there's great reason for Luke to do so: Inquisitors have been dispatched all over the galaxy by Emperor Palpatine to hunt down the remaining Jedi, like Obi-Wan, who survived the Empire's purge.
Rupert Friend, who plays the fearsome, pale-skinned Grand Inquisitor, tells his lieutenant, Moses Ingram's Reva, "The key to hunting Jedi is patience. Jedi cannot help what they are. Their compassion leaves a trail. The Jedi Code is like an itch: He cannot help it."
"Where is he!?" the Grand Inquisitor screams to an unseen character, his fearsome spinning red lightsaber making his point.
As John Williams' unforgettable "Duel of the Fates" plays, we see Reva also slashing away with her Sith saber, as a legend reads, "Between darkness and defeat, hope survives."
Other cast members include Hayden Christensen returning as Darth Vader as well as Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie.
"Obi-Wan Kenobi" debuts May 25 on Disney+.
Disney is the parent company of Lucasfilm, ABC News and "Good Morning America."
