What to know about the Kim Kardashian and Kanye West divorce rumors
Rumors are swirling that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are getting a divorce after six years of marriage. But where does the relationship between the couple actually stand today?
A Page Six report released Tuesday claimed Kardashian is "done" with West, but ABC News has learned from a source close to the celebrity pair that this isn't exactly the case.
Rumors of divorce
In response to the Page Six report claiming Kardashian and West are divorcing, a source close to the couple told ABC News more about what's going on behind the scenes.
The source noted that Kardashian and West have been in therapy working on their marriage and that divorce has been discussed throughout the past year, but the "Selfish" author has not wanted to move forward on that front.
The two have been living separately, with the reality star based in Calabasas with their kids and the rapper spending time in Wyoming. That said, they do work in different states so it's not unusual for them to be in these places or to spend time apart.
What the Page Six report gets wrong, according to the source, is that West has a contentious relationship with the rest of the Kardashian family. The source suggests there's no drama between them.
Despite whatever may be going on in their marriage, the source said that Kardashian and West are fully aligned and united when it comes to parenting their four children.
A history of Kimye
Kardashian and West, who initially met in 2003, officially began dating in 2012. West proposed in October 2013 and the two tied the knot in May 2014.
Both the proposal, which happened at San Francisco's AT&T Park, and wedding day, which took place in Florence, Italy, were captured by reality TV cameras for "Keeping Up With the Kardashians."
Kardashian and West have welcomed four children together -- daughter North West, 7, born in June 2013; son Saint West, 5, born in December 2015; daughter Chicago West, who turns 3 next week, born in January 2018; and son Psalm West, 1, born in May 2019.
This is Kardashian's third marriage -- having previously been married to Damon Thomas and Kris Humphries -- while it's the first for West.
The past year
Cracks began showing in July 2020 in the weeks following West's announcement that he was running for president, when the Grammy winner began exhibiting erratic behavior at public events and on social media.
In the wake of these outbursts, Kardashian responded by asking for "compassion and empathy" for him because he is bipolar.
"I've never spoken publicly about how this has affected us at home because I'm very protective of our children and Kanye's right to privacy when it comes to his health," her statement read. "But today, I feel like I should comment on it because of the stigma and misconceptions about mental health."
West moved forward with the campaign, but never garnered widespread support. The day after Election Day 2020, he tweeted "WELP KANYE 2024."
Kardashian has continued to focus on being an advocate for prison reform as well as studying to become a lawyer.
