Jimmie Allen tweets about plight of 'overworked and underpaid' teachers
As a father of three, Jimmie Allen interacts with the American school system on a daily basis -- and he's got some thoughts.
The singer took to Twitter on Thursday to share those thoughts, which range from light-hearted to serious.
First, he wondered why school has to start "so early," tweeting that it would be easier for everyone if the school day ran "from 9:30-4:30."
Allen then touched on a sincere point: The plight of underpaid educators.
"Teachers need to get paid more. They are overworked and underpaid," he said. "They are educating our children and future leaders. They have all these educational requirements they have to achieve. Teachers go to college and some collect a lot of debt just to get out and be underpaid."
Finally, Allen ended the constructive criticism with a final, more silly thought: "I also do not understand the purpose of homework," he said.
The "Freedom Was a Highway" singer's interest in education and bettering the lives of children everywhere is well-documented.
Last December, the CMA Foundation named him an ambassador to promote music education. He also recently released his first children's book, "My Voice Is a Trumpet."
Allen is dad to three kids, including daughters Naomi and Zara with wife Alexis Gale as well as son Aadyn from a previous relationship.
