4 'Harry Potter' References From the New 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' Trailer
— -- "Harry Potter" fans will be getting a lot more magic very soon.
An extended trailer for J.K. Rowling's new wizarding film, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," was released Sunday during the MTV Movie Awards, and this time, the adventures are coming to the United States.
The "Harry Potter" spinoff stars Eddie Redmayne as magizoologist Newt Scamander, who travels from the U.K. to New York City with a mysterious briefcase full of magical creatures.
From the two-minute trailer fans learn more about Scamander's backstory, as well as the role magic plays in the United States in the early 1920s. There are also a number of "Harry Potter" Easter eggs hidden throughout the trailer that will make fans that much more excited for the film.
Here are the top "Harry Potter" references that are hidden inside the "Fantastic Beasts" trailer.
1) Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
Fans learn that Newt Scamander attended the Hogwarts for a brief period of time, but was kicked out for "endangering human life with a beast." At one point in the trailer, Scamander opens his briefcase and there is a blue-and-yellow scarf inside, which could hint that the magizoologist was sorted into the Hufflepuff house while he attended Hogwarts.
2) Dumbledore's Legacy Lives On
The trailer notes that although Scamander was ultimately expelled from Hogwarts, there was one very familiar teacher that stuck up for the student.
"One of your teachers argued strongly against your expulsion," the voiceover says in the trailer. "I wonder, what makes Albus Dumbledore so fond of you, Mr. Scamander.”
3) Magic Is Hidden From Muggles
Scamander's magical briefcase has a special "muggle worthy" setting that he makes sure is turned on as goes through customs in New York City. The trailer shows that in the United States, muggles and wizards do not have a good relationship; one newspaper headline reads, "International Wizard Hunt Intensifies."
4) Hedwig's Theme is back
The classic theme song from the "Harry Potter" films is prominent in the new trailer.
