Halle Bailey wears white gown, beaded headpiece for 'Little Mermaid' London premiere
“The Little Mermaid” cast made a splash across the pond for the film’s London premiere.
On Monday night, some of the film’s stars including Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Melissa McCarthy, Jacob Tremblay, Javier Bardem, Daveed Diggs, as well as director Rob Marshall and composer Alan Menken, stepped out on the blue carpet to promote the upcoming film.
Bailey, who portrays Ariel in the live action version of the classic tale, kept with the “Under the Sea” theme of the carpet and wore a white gown with a beaded design, which resembled the shape of seashells. She paired the look with a beaded headpiece.
She was all smiles as she posed for photos on the carpet and met young fans.
Last week, the film held its Los Angeles and Mexico City premieres.
During the star-studded Los Angeles event, which took place on Hollywood Boulevard, Bailey and Jodi Benson, the actress who voiced Ariel in the original 1989 animated feature, found each other on the blue carpet and shared an embrace.
Bailey's role is historic, as she is the first Black actress to play Ariel. The singer, one half of the group Chloe x Halle, with older sister Chloe Bailey, was cast in the role in July 2019.
She told “GMA” on the blue carpet that she hopes her role as Ariel lets others who never saw themselves represented with their favorite princesses know that they “deserve to be in these spaces.”
"I hope they see themselves in me on the screen," she said. "I'm just grateful to be here. There were women before me like Brandy and Anika [Noni] Rose, who really were the blueprint for me to even be able to be here today. So, I'm just taking this moment all in. I'm so excited."
"The Little Mermaid" live action film will premiere in theaters on May 26.
Disney is the parent company of ABC News and "Good Morning America."
