No Doubt guitarist reveals Parkinson's diagnosis: 'It's been a struggle'
No Doubt guitarist Tom Dumont has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, the musician announced on Instagram over the weekend.
In a video posted Sunday, Dumont showed appreciation to fans of No Doubt, which is performing a run of shows at Las Vegas' Sphere this spring, before pivoting to an update on his health.
"A number of years ago, I was experiencing a number of symptoms. I went to my doctor, I went to a neurologist, and I did a whole bunch of tests, and I was diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson's disease," Dumont said in the video.
"It's been a struggle. It's a struggle every day," he added.
Dumont said the "good news" is that he can "still play music."
"I can still play guitar," he said. "I've been doing really well."
He also shared that he had been "inspired" by others coming forward to speak openly about their own health issues on social media, which he said "helps erase some of the stigma" and "raises awareness."
Dumont finished by sharing his excitement for the upcoming string of Sphere shows that No Doubt will play in May.
Parkinson's is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the degeneration of nerve cells, which become damaged and die, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
The most significant loss of neurons occurs in an area of the brainstem called the substantia nigra, according to NINDS. The neurons in the substantia nigra produce dopamine, which is a neurotransmitter that plays a vital role in controlling movement.
Parkinson's affects nearly 1 million people in the U.S., according to NINDS. That figure is expected to reach almost 1.2 million by 2030, according to the Parkinson's Foundation.
No Doubt announced in October that they would play the world famous Sphere venue for a six-show run in spring 2026. Several dates were added later on, due to demand.
The group is set to take the stage on May 6, 8, 9, 13, 15, and 16, as well as May 21, 23, 24, 27, 29 and 30.
The band will play several additional shows on June 3, 5, 6, 10, 12 and 13.
No Doubt, which consists of Gwen Stefani, Tony Kanal, Dumont, and Adrian Young, will mark its first extended run in almost 14 years with the Las Vegas shows, according to an October release.
