All the details of the new Baby Yoda merchandise
THIS. IS. THE. WAY. It’s just taking a little longer than usual.
Hasbro is announcing a slate of new products for fans of "The Mandalorian"’s green-eared, wide-eyed scene-stealer The Child, aka Baby Yoda.
Topping the list is a 7.5-inch plush talking plush toy, which begs the question: WHAT WILL HE SAY? He’ll come dressed in a robe and carry a couple of his favorite food accessories: a bowl for sipping bone broth and a tasty Sorgan frog. It’ll retail for about $25.
From there you can take your pick of different sized-figures: a 6.5-inch version and smaller collectables from Hasbro’s “The Bounty” and “Black Series” lines, retailing from about $10 to $20.
But patience you must have, as the real Yoda once said. While Hasbro says the toys are available for pre-order now, they won’t ship until May 2020.
Earlier this month Funko, Mattel and Buffalo Games announced their own Baby Yoda merch.
The lack of key Baby Yoda merchandise this holiday season set off a firestorm among some fans and brought back memories of 1977 when "Star Wars" debuted. The film was not expected to be a big hit and toymaker Kenner was forced to offer kids empty cardboard IOUs for future action figures.
But this time the delay is intentional. Series creator Jon Favreau told "Entertainment Tonight" that he desperately wanted to maintain the Baby Yoda surprise.
“I have to thank Disney and Lucasfilm, because the way the cat usually gets out of the bag with that stuff is merchandising and toy catalogs and things like that. So they really backed us up. We really wanted to have it be that you had to watch it yourself,” Favreau said. “Part of that was holding back on some of the merchandise and holding back on some of the characters.”
