Chrissy Teigen Talks Mom Shaming, 'Really Fun' Life as New Mother
— -- Model, cookbook author and new mother Chrissy Teigen said she knew “mommy shaming” existed but she had never expected to be shamed for going to dinner with her husband, John Legend, after the birth of their daughter, Luna.
“I used to read mommy blogs like crazy so I knew mommy shaming was a thing but I didn’t think it would come from going to dinner,” Teigen said. “We were gone for an hour. We had a good meal together.”
Teigen, 30, and Legend, 37, were photographed going out to eat a little more than a week after the April 14 birth of their first child, Luna Simone Stephens.
The photos sparked a controversy online, with some commenters criticizing Teigen for leaving her baby at home so soon after her birth.
“We needed a break. We needed to enjoy each other’s company and be out,” Teigen said today on “Good Morning America,” adding that she thinks a “happy mommy, happy daddy” will result in a “happy baby.”
Legend took to Twitter last week to defend his wife, an act Teigen called “really sweet.”
The “Cravings” author also revealed that Grammy-winning Legend is just as good a dad as he is a husband, pitching in on diaper changes and bath-time songs.
“I don’t even want to say because everyone already thinks John is so perfect, so I love to kind of twist it and make sure people know that nobody is perfect, but he’s been really great,” Teigen said.
Speaking of herself, Teigen called being a mom “really fun” but she was also eager to get back into her passions, including cooking.
“I kind of bounced right back into the stream of work and I’m cooking again,” said Teigen, who took to social media to announce Luna’s birth last month.
During her pregnancy, Teigen was open both about her struggle to conceive and her and Legend’s decision to have a baby girl through In vitro fertilization. On her daytime talk show "FABLife," the model spoke about her struggle to get pregnant during an emotional discussion.
"I will say, honestly, John and I were having trouble," Teigen confessed. "We would have kids five, six years ago if it'd happened. But, my gosh, it's been a process.”
