Chris Martin Says He's 'Happy to Be Alive' Following Split From Gwyneth Paltrow
— -- Chris Martin reached a new low prior to his split from Gwyneth Paltrow but now says he feels "happy to be alive."
The Coldplay front man opened up about his life since the two stars "consciously uncoupled" more than a year ago.
Speaking to Australian radio show "Rove & Sam" today, the 38-year-old singer admitted that he was feeling pretty low prior to his parting from Paltrow.
"A few years ago I was in a low place in my life and was feeling kind of down and confused about everything," the father of two admitted. "Then some friends gave me a book called 'Man's Search for Meaning,' by Victor Frankel and a poem called 'The Guest House' by Rumi...and those two things started me off on this whole journey that's ended up a few years later now where I just feel so happy to be alive."
The normally private star added, "That may sound a little simple but I suddenly feel very grateful for all these things that are in my life. I just feel happy to be alive and if it's coming across, then that's because it's real."
Martin and Paltrow were married for 12 years before announcing their split in her newsletter Goop in March 2014.
Since the separation, which Paltrow famously termed a "conscious uncoupling," the whole family has been seen out and about together, with the exes looking very friendly.
"We’ve worked really f****** hard to get to [this] point. But we’re very, very close, and it’s so nice," she told Marie Claire earlier this year. "I feel like it’s, in a way, the relationship we were meant to have."
