Busy Philipps reveals her older child is gay and uses they/them pronouns
Busy Philipps is opening up about her family.
The actress and former talk show host revealed on her podcast, "Busy Philipps Is Doing Her Best," that her older child, Birdie, is gay and uses they/them pronouns.
Philipps added that the 12-year-old first came out to her when they were 10, and said that she and her husband, screenwriter Marc Silverstein, "knew that Birdie knew."
The former "Dawson's Creek" actress also said that she asked Birdie's permission before openly discussing them.
"I want Birdie to be in control of their own narrative and not have to answer to anybody outside of our friends and family if they don't want to," she said. "Bird was like, 'I don’t give a f---. You can talk about that I’m gay and out; you can talk about my pronouns. That would be cool with me. That’s great.'"
Philipps, 41, and Silverstein, 49, have two children: Birdie and Cricket, 7. The actress, who said on her podcast that parenting has been "the longest f---ing journey of my life," noted that she and her husband have always encouraged their kids to be true to themselves. And even though she admitted that sometimes she slips up and uses the wrong pronouns with Birdie, Philipps said she is working to be more consistent.
"I’m trying my best at that, too," she said.
