See new birthday photos of Prince George to celebrate his 7th birthday
Prince George, the oldest child of Prince William and Duchess Kate, is turning 7.
To celebrate the birthday of George, who is third in line to the British throne, Kensington Palace released two new photos of the young royal.
Both photos of a smiley Prince George were taken by his mother, Duchess Kate.
George and his two younger siblings, Princess Charlotte, 5, and Prince Louis, 2, and William and Kate have spent the past several months at their Anmer Hall home in Norfolk, following stay-at-home orders issued by the U.K. government because of the coronavirus pandemic.
George's school, Thomas's Battersea, a private school in London that Charlotte also attends, switched to virtual learning in March at the same time that U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson ordered all schools in the country closed until further notice.
“Yeah, homeschooling is fun,” William said with a laugh during an interview with the BBC in March.
"The children have got such stamina, I don’t know how, honestly," Kate added, speaking about how the family was handling the stay-at-home orders. "You get to the end of the day, you write down all the list of the things you’ve done in that day, you sort of pitch a tent, take the tent down again, cook, bake, you get to the end of the day, they’ve had a lovely time, but it is amazing how much you can cram into one day, that’s for sure."
This year's private birthday at home for George, whose birthday is July 22, is a far cry from the public celebration that awaited him when he was born seven years ago.
Crowds of well-wishers and members of the media camped outside of St. Mary's Hospital's Lindo Wing for days in the summer of 2013 for a first glimpse of William's and Kate's first son, also the first grandchild of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana.
Kate carried the day-old prince out of the hospital. The newborn was swaddled in a white blanket with one hand poking out, as if to greet the world.
"It's very emotional," Kate said outside the hospital. "It's such a special time. I think any parent will know what this feeling feels like.
