'Big Little Lies' star Shailene Woodley on working with Meryl Streep: 'She's just such a wonderful human being'
"Big Little Lies" is officially back and Shaliene Woodley, one of the stars of the hit show, stopped by "Good Morning America" to discuss the second season, and what it's like to have Meryl Streep join the cast.
"She looks completely different," Woodley said of Streep's character on the show. "She's unrecognizable. The way that she talks -- she's on another level."
Woodley said it wasn't intimidating to work with the legendary star and instead she rose to the challenge.
"It felt more like an opportunity to grow and learn," Woodley told "GMA." "She's just such a wonderful human being and such a lovely person."
"Big Little Lies" isn't the first time Woodley and Streep crossed paths.
Some years back, Streep randomly handed her purse to Woodley at British Academy Film Awards as she approached the stage -- a moment Woodley said she'd forgotten about until recently.
"[W]hen she got cast for the second season, my mom was like, 'That's so funny because remember when she gave you the bag?' I was like, 'No she didn't,'" Woodley recalled. "My mom was sitting next to me and remembered that whole thing."
Woodley also opened up about what fans can expect from her character's journey.
"Jane's whole arch in this season is about healing and I think that's so important and beautiful," she said. "So I wasn't surprised about that. I was excited. But the story itself, I was very surprised by."
"Big Little Lies" season 2 airs Sundays on HBO.
