Ariana Grande drops new album 'thank u, next' amid Grammys controversy
Hours after blasting the Grammys and explaining why she won't be performing this Sunday at the show, Ariana Grande dropped a new album, "thank u, next," named after her hit single.
The singer tweeted the link to her new album late last night.
The album includes singles "7 rings" and "thank u, next" for a total of 12 songs.
After praise from her mom and manager, Grande said, "i cant stop crying. i love y’all. i hope u enjoy this album. this music, you guys and my friends saved my life. love u. sry. iight bye."
The singer also surprised fans with a video for the song, "Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored." Charles Melton of "Riverdale" stars alongside the singer in the video.
The highly-anticipated new album comes shortly after Grande sounded off about Sunday's Grammy Awards.
The singer retweeted an Associated Press report Thursday in which Grammys executive producer Ken Ehrlich was quoted as saying that Ariana "felt it was too late for her to pull something together." Well, apparently, Ariana doesn't feel that that's what happened.
"Mhmmm here it is! -- 'too late for her to pull something together,'" Grande tweeted. "I’ve kept my mouth shut but now you’re lying about me."
"i can pull together a performance over night and you know that, Ken," she said "it was when my creativity & self expression was stifled by you, that i decided not to attend. i hope the show is exactly what you want it to be and more."
"i offered 3 different songs. it’s about collaboration. it’s about feeling supported," she went on. "it’s about art and honesty. not politics. not doing favors or playing games. it’s just a game y’all.. and i’m sorry but that’s not what music is to me ... Hope that helps everyone understand my decision. i am still grateful for the acknowledgement this year."
Earlier Thursday, Ehrlich told ABC News that the singer wouldn't be performing but didn't say why.
