Anne Hathaway forgot her 'Serenity' lines because of Matthew McConaughey's face
Anne Hathaway forgot her lines while filming the new thriller "Serenity" -- and apparently her co-star Matthew McConaughey is to blame.
The Oscar-winning actress revealed on "Good Morning America" the hilarious reason why the Hollywood heartthrob, who Hathaway said is "like a brother to her," caused the faux pas on set.
"I'm looking at him, nobody is talking, and I go, 'Oh, it's my line. Why did I forget my line? Because you're handsome!'" Hathaway said on "GMA" while laughing. "I was just staring at him and I forgot my line because he looked like a fragrance model, which then of course it occurred to me, he is."
In "Serenity," Hathaway plays the ex-wife of McConaughey, a fishing boat captain, who asks him to save her and their young son from her new, violent husband by taking the husband out to sea and throwing him to the sharks.
"I don't really get offered things like this, to play a part like this," she said.
Hathaway added, "There's a lot of anger going on right now, whether it's physical violence or emotional violence or violence we're directing towards each other ... this film doesn't try to solve it and it doesn't try to explain it, but it does explore it. That really it appealed to me. I want to understand this moment better; I don't know why we treat each other the way we do."
On "GMA," Hathaway praised McConaughey for his true character and off-screen authenticity.
"I hope you all appreciate this -- it's all real," she said.
"It's not like he's doing a Matthew McConaughey voice or telling a Matthew McConaughey story," she continued. "That's actually who he is, and to see someone be able to live his life with that much integrity as he does, as deep a family man as he is do his job with as much integrity as he [does], it's left a big impression on me because I hope to do that same."
On Tuesday, Hathaway sat down with Ellen DeGeneres and opened up about a night out with McConaughey and his wife, Camila Alves, while filming on the island of Mauritius.
Hathaway recalled a hungover meeting with their director the next day, which is one of two reasons why she gave up drinking in October. She told DeGeneres she plans on steering clear of alcohol for the next 18 years.
"I'm going to stop drinking while my son's living in my house just because I don't totally love the way I do it," she said. "He's getting to an age where he really does need me all the time in the morning."
"Serenity" hits theaters Friday.
