Fashion icon and renowned German-born designer Karl Lagerfeld has died.
Lagerfeld was the creative director of luxury French fashion house Chanel since 1983 and has dressed some of the most famous stars in history.
"I've always known that I was made to live this way, that I would be this sort of legend," he once famously said, according to 2013 novel "The World According to Karl."
Members of the fashion community, including designers, stylists, models and fans alike, took to social media to comment on the tremendous loss and his immeasurable impact on the industry.

"This image alone was enough to make my generation dream..." he captioned the shot.
Designer Victoria Beckham said, "So incredibly sad to hear this. Karl was a genius and always so kind and generous to me both personally and professionally."
Her husband, soccer legend David Beckham, also shared a tribute to Lagerfeld.
Famous model Iman said, "The end of an era!" in a Twitter post.
Designer Alexander Wang also commented on Lagerfeld's passing on social media.
"R.I.P TO THIS MAN WHO DEFIED ANY BOUNDARIES PUT IN FRONT OF HIM, WHO CONSTANTLY REINVENTED WHAT IT MEANT TO BE A CREATIVE, AND WHOSE CULTURAL IMPACT WILL BE FOREVER REMEMBERED," he captioned his post.
Famous photographer duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin shared a touching post.
"Rest In Peace although peace and quiet was never your thing. You shot through life's inspiration like a flaming arrow leaving the biggest legacy behind," they captioned their post.
Model Bella Hadid said, "Nothing feels right today..at a loss for words and so heartbroken by the loss of Karl."
"His humor, wit, love and passion for fashion will live on forever," she continued in her post. "Thank you for the inspiration that you gave to this world and for all of the hearts that you touched in the process. Every time I saw you it felt like the first time & I will miss your hugs so much. I feel so lucky to have been in your presence. Sending my love to the Lagerfeld family and to all closest to him. I am so sorry. We all love you so much."
Iconic supermodel Claudia Schiffer shared a photo with the late designer.
Japanese artist Takashi Murakami said, "Karl! I loved you deep inside my heart!" in an Instagram post.
Elle’s editor-in-chief Nina Garcia said Lagerfeld "didn’t breath oxygen," in a Twitter post.
"He breathed fashion," she continued. "He had both an artistic and a business eye that defined what a modern fashion house should be. He lived one hundred lives and his creative brain was always looking at the future instead of looking at the past."
"I will miss his energy, his dedication, and love towards an industry that crowned him as the greatest Kaiser," she added. "Thank you for all the unforgettable fashion memories and inspiration you created."
Longtime friend and fellow designer Valentino Garavani wrote in an Instagram post, "Karl my friend... you will be for me always the young man smiling and full of life! I am so sad and the words cannot express my sorrow! I love you my friend.. Goodbye.."
Actress Lindsay Lohan chimed in on Instagram with a touching black and white photo standing alongside Lagerfeld. Her caption notes, "My heart is broken. Thank you for everything x."
Industry insider and Instagram's head of fashion, Eva Chen, mentioned a memory of interviewing Lagerfeld for Lucky Magazine where the publication mocked up a cover issue featuring his cat.
"He was so tickled by it that he asked to keep it," she said. "I didn’t know him well but in my fleeting encounters with him, he had a wicked wit (he had very strong opinions about Athleisure) and a true fashion legend. Rest In Peace, thank you for inspiring us."
Designer Dontella Versace said, "Karl your genius touched the lives of so many, especially Gianni and I. We will never forget your incredible talent and endless inspiration. We were always learning from you."
Fashion designer Stella McCartney expressed her sentiments in an Instagram post. She said, "This is a truly sad day. To say I knew this gentle man that changed how we all looked at the world, is an honour. My heart goes out to his loved ones and to all that felt his delicate and spectacular touch on an industry that is so crowded with characters."
She continued, "Thank you Karl for all the beauty and for seeing the world through those iconic glasses that were truly rose-tinted with a vision that was like no other. You will be very missed... And always loved x"
First lady Melania Trump also posted her condolences on Twitter. She said, "Today the world lost a creative genius. We will miss you Karl! #RIPKarlLagerfeld."
