ABC News is projecting that Donald Trump will win four of Nebraska's five electoral votes, while Vice President Kamala Harris will win the electoral vote from Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District.
Voters in Nebraska headed to the polls on Election Day to cast their votes in the presidential race as well as several down-ballot races and two competing ballot measures dealing with abortion.
The state has a total of five electoral votes, two of which are awarded to the statewide popular vote winner and the other three awarded by district. ABC News projects that Trump will win votes in both the 1st and 3rd districts as well as the two statewide votes as the popular vote winner.
Voters also weighed in on two competing abortion ballot measures.
A measure that prohibits abortions after the first trimester -- with some exceptions -- will pass, ABC News projects.
The projected vote enshrines Nebraska's current 12-week abortion ban in the state's constitution. The measure allows abortions past the first trimester of pregnancy in cases of medical emergencies or pregnancies that are the result of sexual assault or incest.
A second ballot measure in Nebraska that would have amended the state constitution to create a fundamental right to abortion, also passed, but received fewer votes. It is unlikely to go into effect as the initiative with the higher number of votes will take effect if there is a conflict.
In a closely watched Senate race, ABC News projects Republican incumbent Sen. Deb Fischer will win, defeating independent candidate Dan Osborn.
Osborn jolted the Senate race with a surprisingly competitive campaign, and Republicans ended up pouring more money into advertising and campaigning than they anticipated — although Fischer performed better than some polls indicated, and is now projected to hold onto her seat.
As an independent, Osborn refused to say which party he would have caucused with.
Nebraska's unique electoral vote system was the topic of debate this year, as Republican lawmakers tried to change it to a winner-take-all approach that would have benefited former President Donald Trump and risked an electoral college tie.
Trump won statewide over President Joe Biden in 2020 by 17 percentage points. However, Biden won one electoral vote from Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District.
Counties are colored red or blue when the % expected vote reporting reaches a set threshold. This threshold varies by state and is based on patterns of past vote reporting and expectations about how the vote will report this year.
