Family friend among 3 accused of kidnapping 3-month-old boy

WATCH: Kidnapped baby found safe, 3 suspects in custody

A family friend is among the three suspects accused of taking a 3-month-old baby boy from his Northern California home in what police believe was a premeditated kidnapping, authorities said Wednesday.

The baby was found safe and in good condition Tuesday, one day after he was taken from his San Jose home.

San Jose Police Sgt. Christian Camarillo said Wednesday that the baby's mother "is very traumatized."

Police on Wednesday identified the three suspects as family friend Yesenia Guadalupe Ramirez, 43; Jose Roman Portillo, 28; and Baldomeo Sandoval, 37, all of San Jose.

Suspects arrested in the kidnapping of a baby in San Jose, Calif., from left, Yesenia Guadalupe Ramirez, Baldomeo Sandoval and Jose Roman Portillo.

The 3-month-old's kidnapping was reported around 1 p.m. Monday by his grandmother, who was watching the baby while the mother was at work, Camarillo said.

The grandmother said she came home, took the baby inside the apartment and went back to the car to unload groceries, Camarillo said.

In that "short amount of time," a man -- later identified as Portillo -- went into the apartment and took the little boy, Camarillo said.

Camarillo said the suspect brought a baby carrier with him to the home.

"We believe this was planned. It's not some random act," he said.

Police claim one of the suspects, Ramirez, a family friend, took the baby and grandmother to run errands on Monday. Police believe Ramirez was in contact with one of the other suspects, Camarillo said.

Surveillance video of Brandon Cuellar's suspected kidnapper was posted by San Jose PoliceMedia Relations on their Twitter account. The 3-month old infant was kidnapped from a home in San Jose, Calif., on April 25, 2022.

Her "statement changed several times during the interview process," San Jose police said in a statement Wednesday.

The three suspects have been booked on charges of kidnapping, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, child abduction and home invasion, Camarillo said, adding that charges may change.

Camarillo said "there are some parts of the investigation that cannot be revealed" to maintain the integrity of the investigation.
