Mom's Homemade 'Star Wars' Costumes Will Blow You Away

One mom's homemade "Star Wars" costumes for her twin boys are sure to turn heads this Halloween.

"I let them come up with costume ideas each year and I'll let them know if I can make it," Corrine Kurtz of Commerce City, Colo., told ABC News. "When they told me they wanted to be C-3PO and R2-D2, I originally said 'No, I cant do that. That’s crazy' and then I looked at them and said 'You know, I'll make it happen. I'll make it work.'"

Kurtz said she spent the last three-and-a-half weeks crafting the 'Star Wars' character costumes for her five-year-old sons Jason and Derek who will go as C-3PO and R2-D2 this year.

Kurtz said she's been creating Halloween costumes for her twins using household items and basic craft supplies since they were two years old.

Last year, Jason and Derek won six contests as Mario and Luigi "riding" Yoshi the turtle.

But this year's costumes, complete with lights and sounds, have already begun to make a splash.

"We had taken them on Saturday to some local events and people went crazy," she said. "I think maybe it's because of the 'Star Wars' movie coming out."

"[The boys] love it," Kurtz added. "They’ve been turning on the TV every chance they get to try and watch themselves. I didn’t think they'd make this much of a buzz, but it did.'"

Kurtz said she built Jason's R2-D2 costume out of a trash can, foam and lid handles so he can rotate the head around himself -- just as the robot character does in the film.

Derek's C-3PO costume is crafted from diamond sheet metal and plastic. LED lights were added to both costumes and Kurtz's husband controls the sounds with his Fitbit watch and an old iPhone.
