When Amber, the partner of “Good Morning America” co-anchor Robin Roberts, was looking for a new dog after the death of her beloved pet, Lara Spencer of “GMA” was there to help.
Spencer took Amber to North Shore Animal League America in Port Washington, New York. North Shore identifies itself as the largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization in the world.
Amber and Roberts have both suffered losses of their pets. Amber lost her dog, Frances, a beagle-shepherd mix, two years ago. Roberts lost her Jack Russell terrier, KJ, earlier this year.
Frances was nearly 15 years old, and KJ was almost 18.
Roberts isn’t quite ready for a new pet just yet. Amber, though, was ready.
"People are always torn," Roberts said. "They set the bar so high, KJ and Frances, that it's hard to imagine. It's very difficult."
"I am ready to have another new one," Amber said.
Lukas, a Tibetan spaniel-papillon mix, caught Amber’s eye right away and she ended up choosing him.
