El Chapo's Extradition to US Put on Hold

WATCH: El Chapo: The world's most powerful drug dealer

Mexican drug lord El Chapo has had his pending extradition to the United States suspended, according to the Mexican Attorney General's office.

The suspension is in place until the judge decides on an appeal by the suspect's legal team.

Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman's extradition to the United States was approved in May under the condition that U.S. authorities would not seek the death penalty.

American officials in Texas were looking to have him face a slew of charges, including murder, money laundering and conspiracy.
