Celine Dion's Husband Rene Angélil to Be Memorialized in Same Cathedral Where They Wed

Celine Dion's late husband, René Angélil, will be memorialized in the same cathedral where he married the singer in 1994.

The singer revealed that Angélil, who died Thursday, requested the sentimental location for his funeral, which will be held January 22.

"According to his final wishes, his funeral will be held at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, where 21 years ago, he chose to marry the one who will remain as the great love of his life, the artist for which he had the most respect, the woman who gave him light and happiness until his very last breath," a Facebook post read on the singer's page.

A public ceremony for fans will be held January 21, followed by another "Celebration of Life" at the Caesars Palace Colosseum in Las Vegas on February 3.

In the post on Dion's page, Angélil was also remembered with kind words.

"He will be remembered as a gentle man, generous and kind, an unprecedented visionary, a modern Pygmalion, a Renaissance man," the post read. "All who had the privilege of knowing him and of working closely with him, whether personally or professionally, salute a leader and a man of great intelligence and wisdom."

The post continued, "As her manager, René Angélil made Céline Dion a star of international stature. ... He is now a part of the collective memory of the music industry, be it in Canada or elsewhere in the world."

Angélil died Thursday after a lengthy battle with throat cancer. He was 73. Dion and Angélil, who wed in 1994, have three sons.
