Joe Biden's eldest son has been largely absent from the public eye since he sought medical treatment at a Houston cancer center in 2013 after feeling “weak and disoriented.” At the time, the vice president and White House refused to discuss his condition, but doctors later said Biden had undergone surgery to remove a small lesion from his brain. The 46-year-old also suffered a mild stroke in 2010.

Beau Biden announced in April 2014 that he would not be seeking a third term as Delaware attorney general to instead pursue a run for governor in 2016.

Just three weeks ago, Beau Biden's firm, Grant and Eisenhofer, announced that Biden would be expanding his work with the firm's whistleblower clients.
