The Chicago Cubs may not have home field advantage tonight against the Pittsburgh Pirates in their National League Wild Card game, but they do have the backing of a classic Hollywood film.
In the 1989 film "Back to the Future Part II," Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox, travels 30 years into the future when the fictitious "USA Today" headline is "Cubs Sweep Series in 5" against Miami on Oct. 22, 2015.
How 'Back to the Future: Part II' Scored on 2015 Predictions One-on-One With ESPN's First Female Baseball Game Analyst Jessica MendozaSure, the real World Series actually starts Oct. 27 this year. And yes, the movie incorrectly predicted that the skies would be buzzing with flying cars and hoverboards. And, no, there isn't a "Jaws 19" film in theaters, to our dismay.
But Chicago Cubs fans can hope and dream. After all, they haven't won a World Series since 1908.
There are a number of predictions that the movie did score correctly. Pepsi actually is releasing a "Pepsi perfect" product on Oct. 21, with a tie-in to the film.
